NM Engineering Intake System | MINI Cooper S | N14 and N18 Engine

MINI did a great job on the 2011+ model MCS in improving the turbo intake tube by replacing the soft rubber tubing with a full size and rigid ABS plastic one, similar to NM's aluminum/silicone version for the 2007~2010 MCS & JCW vehicles. So NM decided to leave the inlet tube out and this allows the price of the kit to be more economical. This kit will fit the 2011+ N18 engine as well as serving as an inexpensive solution for the 2007+ N14 engines.

The "Open-Air-Box" system gives you an abundance of unrestricted 360 degree air source compared to the OEM's sealed air box with a flat filter and tube fed air source. During R&D, NM installed temperature probes around the engine compartment and the gauge showed the inside temperature matched the ambient after vehicle speed past 20 mph. Logging the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor also showed that the open-air-box intake generated higher volume (gr/sec) of air going through the sensor. So when NM had to choose between (a) cooler air at all speeds with limited air source, vs. (b) cooler air at 20~ mph. with unlimited air source, the choice was pretty obvious. Also included is a pre-oiled and cleanable NM filter.
C.A.R.B. Exempt! EO# D-236-15
This kit fits US & Canada MCS with N18 engine (2011~12) as well as older model with N14 engine (2007~2010).
Due to an ECU Change, NM Engineering has 2 different brackets that holds the fresh air inlet pipe.

Please see below for MINI production date breakdown:

  • 2007 - 2012 (March Production) : Use part number NM.658857
  • 2012+ - (April Production) : Use part number NM.658857.1

NM intake for N18 engine January 3, 2015
Reviewer: Aaron K from Lutz, FL United States
The NM intake sounds great, and my IAT's did not go up. Torque obd2 gauges are still showing 8-10 degrees over ambient temp.
The stock hose routing and mounting on a 2013 MCS is a little different than the directions, but nothing major.  Had to trim the silicone elbow a litle bit to get it to sit parallel to the engine.

intake NM January 3, 2015

I had the K&N on another mini and it was loud  and there was a lot of turbo noise. I saw the NM and thought I would give it a shot. The quality is outstanding the sound is great. It greatly improves the performance on the mini,  especially on take off.
Great product as with all NM products

NM Hi Flow Intake performnce January 3, 2015
Reviewer: RBS from Middletown, MD United States
My goal was to increase the HP in my Countryman S to be at least equivalent to or greater than the JCW version (208 hp). The combination of the NM exhaust, air intake and the race chip was immediately noticeable on my first test drive when I took off from a stop and spun my tires (without trying)with no hint of any hesitation. The engine not only sounded more powerful with the great sounding NM exhaust, but the acceleration was smooth and immediate. When I first thought about performance upgrades, I was only going to have the exhaust and intake installed, but as Scott explained, you wouldn't be able to achieve the full potential of those performance parts with the stock ECU. I definitely recommend to have all three components (exhaust, intake, chip) installed at the same time. You won't be sorry!
